Donovan's Irish Cobbler

Thursday, September 29, 2011 I like trying new things and I haven’t had much experience with Irish food, so I thought I would check out Donovan's Irish Cobbler in Woodstock. The Rose Creek Drive location has been occupied by many restaurants over the years, but Donovan's seems to be a popular choice. Jim Donovan and his family brought the idea from Chicago. They wanted to bring Irish tradition to the Georgia area. The horseshoe, a sandwich the family ate back in Illinois, is the main attraction. The restaurant offers traditional Irish pub food. Décor: The interior of the pub is very inviting. It is a great spot for gathering with friends for a nice meal and some wonderful Irish beer. Donovan's has outdoor seating with booths and tables. There's also an indoor bar. Irish décor covers the walls. [...]

O’Shays Opens Its Doors

Thursday, 29th Sept, 2011 O’Shays, a new sports bar with an Irish pub theme, opened Monday at 20800 N. John Wayne Parkway, Suite 101, in the spot formerly occupied by the Arena Sports Grill, which closed in July. Though the Arena sign is still up at the south end of the business, at the north end is a vinyl sign that proclaims “O’Shays Pub & Grill.” Co-owner Shay Deverse said the appearance of the eatery hasn’t changed much since it was Arena, but more remodeling is planned for next summer. What is new are the 13 55-inch hi-definition big screen televisions. Deverse’s business partner is Ted Schroder. Both men live in Ahwatukee, but have said they would move to Maricopa if the business does well. Deverse said they definitely wanted to open for the football season. “Those are [...]

Make Mine A Two-thirds, Barman

Friday, September 30, 2011 COULD I have a venti Heineken and a grande Carlsberg please? This could be a new order in Irish pubs now that beer companies are making plans to offer Starbucks-style drink measurements. Heineken has begun rolling out “schooner”-size glasses in UK pubs. The schooner, roughly two-thirds the size of a pint, is a popular measure in Australian pubs. Carlsberg, for its part, is bringing out a new glass for its Staropramen and Mahou lagers, so drinkers will have an alternative to a glass or a pint. The thinking behind the new measures is that they will curb excessive drinking (good luck with that) and make lager a more attractive option to female drinkers. Quite why offering a new in-between size of beer measure would suddenly make the drink more attractive to women remains something of a [...]

Lively Fall Lunches at Claddagh Irish Pub

Wednesday, 28th Sept, 2011 The weather may be cooling off, but lunch is heating up at Claddagh Irish Pub! The restaurants, located in Mason, OH (5075 Deerfield Blvd.) and Newport, KY (1 Levee Way, Suite 2122), have newly redesigned patios, complete with fire features to keep guests comfortable even when the fall afternoons have a chill in the air. Variety and affordability can be found across the lunch menu at both pubs. "Nothing says fall like a hearty lunch and a pint of Guinness,"says Karen Murphy, corporate director of food and beverage. "That why we're menuing traditional favorite dishes from the homeland, all priced under $8." What better way to have a customary Irish lunch than with an order of Claddagh's crave-worthy Fish & Chips ($6.99), a wild cod fillet coated in a Bass Ale batter and fried up golden [...]

Kamionka said Mulligan’s will appeal to the 5-10 p.m. crowd, one of the fastest-growing time slots for people to go out. “The good news is people are still coming out to downtown, but I think that as we’re coming out into the suburbs some people are realizing that downtown isn’t the only thing. I think things were always going on in the suburbs,” he [...]
