Highlights of the Year: Enterprise Ireland

Irish businesses, supported by Enterprise Ireland, have had a record year in 2015. While all the figures are not yet in for 2015, it looks like Irish companies, supported by Enterprise Ireland are on target to achieve impressive export gains and employment creation targets in high growth export markets such as China and the Middle East.  And that’s coming-off the back of a very successful year in 2014 when Irish companies had their best year ever in terms of exports gained of €18.6bn. The number of net jobs created as a direct result of this export gain was eight and a half thousand, the strongest net job creation ever. Highlights of the Year: Kilcullen Kapital Partners

Kilcullen Kapital Partners has had a very successful and productive 2015, with the opening of several licensed premises and the launch of their private equity fund - the Global Village Hospitality Fund. In November, The Jar (formerly Solas) on Camden Street opened under the management of the Loyola Group, with a bold new concept and interior.  The two pubs Caffrey’s and the James Joyce in Prague were acquired in June 2015 by Kilcullen, and are trading excellently. The Global Village ICAV, a €100m Hospitality Investment Fund was launched, under the leadership of CEO Colm O’Reilly, a very experienced hospitality senior executive. Highlights of the Year: Alltech

One of the biggest highlights during 2015 for Alltech on the beverage side of the business was the acquisition of Cumberland Breweries Ltd. This expansion provided us with brewing facilities in Newry, Northern Ireland and in Great Corby, Cumbria, England and represented the first step outside of the USA, brewing for the first time in Ireland. With a capacity to produce 40,000 hectolitres, the two new breweries added several new brands, including Finn Lager and Foxes Rock Ale, to the growing Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company portfolio. Highlights of the Year: Tourism Ireland

Tourism Ireland is delighted to be associated with this year’s record number of overseas visitors to the island of Ireland. As a North-South body established as part of the Good Friday Agreement, it is very encouraging to see all parts of the island, North and South, participating in this very strong recovery with visitors overall growing in double digits. Peter Nash, Head of Strategy at Tourism Ireland says that “We know that visiting the pub is an important part of the Ireland experience and is frequently cited by departing visitors as a highlight of their trip. Irish Craft Cocktail Awards 2015

On Sunday 6th December The 2nd Annual Irish Craft Cocktail Awards were held at The Odeon, Harcourt Street. Over 200 attendees from the craft cocktail and drinks industry gathered to celebrate the achievements of individuals and establishments from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The not-for-profit awards were created in 2014 for the benefit of the Irish cocktail industry by the cocktail industry, by co-founders Kevin Hurley, Robert Caldwell, and Chandrika Narayanan-Mohan. The Irish Craft Cocktail Awards aim to celebrate the skill, training, uniqueness and artistry of craft cocktail concoction in Ireland. In 2015 Alan Kavanagh joined the committee, in addition to regional ambassadors. Jameson Experience Midleton wins ‘Ultimate Ambassador Award’ for its contribution to Cork tourism

The Jameson Experience Midleton (JEM) has won the ‘Ultimate Ambassador Award’ at the second annual #CorkNeedsYou Cork Conference Ambassadors Awards, organised by the Cork Convention Bureau. The prestigious ceremony paid special tribute to the JEM for its contribution to Cork tourism, having welcomed 125,000 visitors to the visitor centre in the past year.  The ‘Ultimate Ambassador Award’ recognised the unparalleled economic and tourism benefits the JEM team delivered to Cork over the past 12 months. Last year, it welcomed 125,000 visitors from around the world, with the top five nationalities being USA, France, Germany, Britain and domestic visitors from Ireland. This shows a 5% increase in figures from 2014. Gold Award winning vodka puts St. Patrick’s Distillery in high spirits

Cork based St. Patrick's Distillery came out on top with a Gold Medal Award at the ‘Irish Whiskey and Spirits Awards’ for their Craft Distilled 100% Potato Vodka. Made from Lady Clare and Rosetta potatoes, it is a clear full strength Vodka, with an aroma and taste profile that is unique to its potato origin. Described as being ‘smooth enough to drink neat over ice’ the grain free and hand bottled Vodka stood out. Commenting on the accolade Barry Fitzgerald, Sales Manager for St. Patrick's Distillery said “We only launched our product range earlier this year, so it’s a huge honour to achieve this top industry award. Beer Academy’s top qualification hits 100

The number of Beer Sommeliers has reached the 100 milestone following a handful of recent accreditations by global beer education body the Beer Academy. Linda Sheehan of Barry Group in Ireland became the 100th Beer Sommelier after passing the final stage of the assessment at the Beer Academy offices in London earlier this month. Two other candidates, from the UK and Lithuania, successfully completed their Beer Academy accreditation on the same day. The Beer Sommelier accreditation is the ultimate qualification in beer knowledge. To succeed, candidates must first submit a written application including a portfolio demonstrating their work in promoting beer. If successful at this stage, they attend an assessment with Beer Academy director of training Alex Barlow, where they are questioned on their portfolio, before being asked to identify a number of beer styles and off flavours, and to [...]

Tourism Ireland welcomes exceptional +13% growth in overseas visitors for January-October 2015

Welcoming the figures from the CSO for overseas visitors to Ireland for January to October 2015, Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Today’s figures indicate that 2015 is set to be a record year for Irish tourism, with more than 7.4 million people arriving during the January to October period – an increase of almost +13%, or an additional 842,300 overseas visitors, when compared to 2014. “I am delighted to report that growth has been recorded from all of our markets around the world, with record numbers arriving here from North America (+13% on the first ten months of 2014). Ireland now welcomes 10% of all American visitors to Europe – particularly noteworthy given the intense competition from other destinations. Supplier Spotlight: Independent Brewing

Independent Brewing launched in January 2014 and is located in Carraroe, in the heart of the Conamara Gaeltacht, along the Wild Atlantic Way. The craft brewery has already established itself as an artisan producer of award-winning, high quality beers.
