Congratulations to McGargles! Out of 4,000 beers entered into the U.S Open Beer Championship, including entries from 20 different countries, McGargles Fancy Frank’s Lager won a bronze to be effectively voted 3rd best American Style Light Lager in the world. Judging in the U.S. Open Beer Championships is blind; the judges do not know what beers they are tasting and the competition faced by McGargles was steep with some of the best international breweries competing for medals. Niall Phelan founder of Rye River Brewery commented that ‘after less than two years in business we are over the moon with our award and will target hitting gold for next year!’ McGargles is brewed in Co. Kildare by The Rye River Brewing Company which was established in late 2013 by Niall and his two Business partners Alan Wolfe and Tom Cronin. The [...]
The Irish pavilion at Toronto’s Festival of Beer was sponsored by Tourism Ireland for the first time this year and featured some of Ireland’s top brewers, finest chefs and emerging musicians. The annual festival, which took place over the weekend, celebrates Canada’s rich brewing history and showcases experts of the brewing craft from around the world. At the Irish pavilion, there was Irish music and entertainment, as well as culinary treats from the Irish chefs and Irish brewers – giving Canadian attendees a real taste of Ireland. There was also a fun photo-booth, where festival-goers could place themselves in iconic spots around the island of Ireland and ‘jump into Ireland’ – to be in with a chance to win a holiday here. With more than 35,000 people attending the three-day festival, it was an ideal platform to showcase the island [...]
