The Burren announced as the winner of Foodie Towns 2015

The Restaurants Association of Ireland have announced that the winner of Foodie Towns 2015 is The Burren. After a rigorous few weeks of applications, town visits and near to 9,000 online votes, The Burren have beaten the competition and proved themselves to be an excellent leader as a foodie destination. From bustling farmers markets to innovative strategies for growth and development, they set the benchmark for food tourism in Ireland. "It was so encouraging to see the high standard of applications for this year's Foodie Towns competition – to reach the Top 10 alone was a real achievement for each of these destinations, given the competitive calibre. But what made The Burren stand out as exemplary was the comprehensiveness of their food offering from field – or in their case, fertile rock – through to fork. Food-loving tourists to The [...]

Walsh Whiskey Distillery Inspires Top Irish Bartenders To Take ‘The Irishman Whiskey Barrel Aged Cocktail Challenge’

A selection of top whiskey bars in Dublin have been set the challenge to come up with inventive and exciting barrel aged cocktails using The Irishman premium whiskey range. There will be 10 cocktails in 10 barrels by 10 bartenders making for an exciting competition and sees The Irishman whiskey brand continuing to innovate in the expanding whiskey market. The worldwide resurgence in whiskey is driven, to a large extent, by the drinks suitability to mixing. As Irish whiskey is triple distilled, making it smoother to the palate, it lends itself to the art of ‘mixology’ - as cocktail-making is known. Barrel-aged cocktails are a recent trend in mixology featuring pre-mixed drinks aged in barrels for several weeks. The lengthy process allows the flavour and smoothness of each beverage to mellow for a unique taste. The cocktails will be aged [...]

Pub Spotlight: Kevin Barry’s Irish Pub in Savannah, Georgia

Kevin Barry’s Irish Pub opened its doors at midnight on Friday, October 31st 1980 and has since become one of Savannah Georgia’s favorite traditions! Vic Power, who hails originally from New York and is a second generation Irishman, grew up listening to the history of Ireland from his father and grandfather who were both from Waterford, Ireland.  Mr. Power became a restaurateur who wanted to share his love of Irish history and music by opening up a “little Irish joint” where “good Irish music” could be heard 7 nights a week.     Mr. Power had a simple vision: Providing locals and visiting guests from around the world excellent customer service, fine spirits, and quality food in a traditional Irish pub setting with an inviting Old World charm.   Kevin Barry’s Irish Pub honors our military members past and present while [...]

O’Hara’s® Brewery has launched the second edition from the Hop Adventure Series, a single hop IPA featuring the Galaxy Hop. The hop: Galaxy is one of the most internationally recognised Australian flavour hops; bred in the mid-1990s from Australian high alpha hops and European cultivar male hops. It is bursting with fruitiness, and in particular imparts a unique passion fruit flavour to the IPA, along with citrus and peach. The brewing process:  The head brewer reduced the amount of speciality malt typically used in a standard India Pale Ale as the Galaxy hops take the driving seat in this beer, and display their full aroma and flavor.
