MyPlace Connect smashes one million user barrier

MyPlace Connect, Ireland’s largest free WiFi provider has continued its incredible fast paced growth with the announcement that one million users have now joined MyPlace Connect to avail of free WiFi in hundreds of locations throughout the world including restaurants, cafés, pubs, hotels and shopping centres. Glendalough Distillery launches global online brand film

Glendalough Distillery, Ireland’s first craft distillery have launched a film that showcases the history and origins of the brand, which will be promoted in over 20 countries worldwide. The film charts the history of distillation, which began in Irish monasteries in the 6th century. The Irish monks were the world’s first distillers, monks like St. Kevin - the man featured on every Glendalough bottle. Irish Food Companies Honoured at Bord Bia Awards

The achievements of eight Irish food companies were recognised at the Bord Bia Food and Drink Awards in Dublin’s Mansion House. The Awards, held every two years, reward excellence within the Irish food and drink industry across eight categories – Branding, Consumer Insight, Digital Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Exporting, Innovation, Success at Home and Sustainability. Over 300 industry representatives from Ireland’s leading food and drink companies gathered for the ceremony, where they also heard from guest speaker, Joe Schmidt, the Irish Rugby Team’s Head Coach who provided his insight into leadership and teamwork. Christmas spirit the toast of Annapolis

Anto Clarke and Michael Galway, owners of the Galway Bay pub in Annapolis, Maryland are the toast of the town for the Christmas season after taking delivery of their own eggnog from Ireland. For many, the very thought of eggnog brings back bad memories of finding milk cartons in the fridge and your grandparents house and accidentally taking your first taste of Eggnog. Alltech releases first Global Craft Beer Survey

Around the world consumer demands for higher quality and greater variety have positively impacted the craft brewing industry. A recent study on the global craft brewing industry, conducted by yeast expert Alltech, discovered that there are more than 10,000 craft breweries worldwide. Of those, 86 percent are in North America and Europe, with Europe pipping North America to the post by only three craft breweries. Even so, the U.S. has just surpassed 4,000 breweries, which represents a nearly 20 percent growth in the last year and far exceeds any other individual country’s count by thousands.  The findings of this inaugural Global Craft Beer Survey were released as Alltech confirmed the details of the fourth Alltech Craft Brews and Food Fair, which will take place in the Convention Centre, Dublin, Feb. 5 – 7, 2016. For Angie Adams-Stephens, the proud owner of one of the newest Irish pubs in the world; the labor intensive seasonality of a catering company has been traded for a great bar with food. The Road to the beach Growing up in Ann Arbor, Michigan; Angie was always involved in the food and hospitality business - including a stint at the legendary Zingerman’s Deli where she whet her appetite for working in the hospitality sector. After 20 years working in administration for the University of Michigan, Angie admitted “it was time to do something different”. New Irish pub, The Weir, to open on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

January 2016 is firmly pencilled in the diary for Upper East Side residents…. Irish born Dónal Daly and his business partner - Martin Whelan are working round the clock to renovate their newly acquired premises, the former location of the Kinsale Tavern; an iconic Irish sports bar on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. For Daly, the opening of the pub will be the realization of a long held dream. Moving to NYC in ’98, Daly worked initially as a bond broker. “Last year, I decided it was either time to stop talking about it or do it" he said.
