Davy Macs wins national vote for Ireland’s best Gin and Tonic

Waterford bar Davy Macs’ officially serves the best Irish Gin and Tonic in Ireland. The announcement follows the national gin and tonic festival run by Great Irish Beverages, which featured over 100 venues across the island of Ireland. All participating venues created a signature Irish gin and tonic for the duration of the festival and the public was invited to vote for their favourite via social media. The winning Irish G and T, featuring Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin and elderflower fever tree tonic, won the vote hands down. Oisin Davis of Great Irish Beverages says this is a phenomenal win for Davy Mac’s: “The public are ultimately the real voice when it comes to choosing the best Irish gin and tonic.  If they don’t love it, they won’t order it.  It’s also wonderful to see Irish gins get so much limelight and attention. Our festivals are all about showcasing Irish drink products and we had venues from all round the island of Ireland on board!" P.J. Rigney, [...]

Keeping Your Irish Pub Relevant- Part 2: Food

In 1986, Howard Johnson (HoJo), with well over 1,000 units, was the largest full-service restaurant operator in North America. In 1980, JD Wetherspoons (JDW) was a single pub in England. The common thread binding these business stories is a great deal about how relevant these brands remained to their customers over the course of thirty years or so. For any number of reasons, from management style to content offering to customer experience, two failed and one succeeded, in an industry that moved at a relatively staid pace during that period. In 2016, the casual-dining industry is moving at warp-speed compared to twenty years ago, so the forgiveness [...]

Pub Spotlight: Tir na nOg, Denmark

Beautiful, historic Irish pub in the heart of Aarhus, the 2017 European Culture Capital is also known as “Smiletsby” (Smiling City) but Denmark is mostly known as the happiest country on the planet.  Built in 2004, we have established ourselves as the number one bar of any kind in Jylland. We have created a place that has a true Irish feel, then added a little of our homegrown beauty in Denmark. Add lots of young vibrant people, a large helping of local expats, and a great entertainment venue.  Currently we are in a phase of expansion. For the past 12 years we have held nights with up to 150 people having a traditional Irish experience, but now, in our expansion, we have an opportunity to make another 400 extra people smile every night. We are adding an exclusive whiskey bar [...]
