Irish Distillers Reintroduces Red Spot Whiskey

Irish Distillers has unveiled its new Red Spot Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey. Last seen in the mid-1960s, the new member of the Spot Whiskeys range offers whiskey drinkers further choice in the innovative super-premium Irish whiskey category. Crafted from an old recipe handed down by the Mitchell & Son family of wine merchants, the creators of the original Spot Whiskeys range in the early 1900s, this reimagined Red Spot is a triple-distilled, single pot still Irish whiskey that has been matured for a minimum of 15 years in a combination of casks pre-seasoned with Bourbon, Oloroso Sherry and Marsala fortified wine. The Mitchell family worked closely with the craftsmen from Midleton Distillery throughout the collaboration. As part of the process, Marsala fortified wine casks were procured from Sicily in the early 2000s and then, in 2004, were filled with [...]

New Pearse Lyons Brewery to open in Dundalk

Alltech Beverage Division Ireland (ABDI) has announced plans to open a new brewery at the historic site of the old MacArdle Moore Brewery in Dundalk. The new Pearse Lyons Brewery will incorporate the relocation of the Station Works Brewery in Newry, which was acquired by the late Dr. Pearse Lyons in 2015 and produces the Foxes Rock™ range of ales, stouts and lagers. The history of brewing in Dundalk dates back to 1683, when records indicate that more than 30 ale and beer breweries existed in the town. The renowned MacArdle Moore Brewery provided the perfect location for Alltech to honour Dr. Lyons, its late founder. “It’s an honour to be bringing new life to this historic building,” said John O’Brien, master brewer at Pearse Lyons Brewery. “The MacArdle Moore Brewery was synonymous with brewing in Dundalk. O’Hara’s Releases 8th Edition of Award-Winning Barrel Aged Series

O’Hara’s Brewery has announced the release of the 8th edition in its award-winning Barrel Aged Series: Leann Folláin. The stout has been aged in first fill American bourbon oak barrels supplied by The Dublin Liberties Irish Whiskey Distillery, based in the heart of Dublin 8. Commenting on the new release, Seamus O’Hara, Founder and CEO of O'Hara's Brewery said "Our Barrel Aged Series has won a lot of awards over the years and developed a bit of a cult following. The only downside is that it has created very high expectations! Some people might think it risky to mess around with Leann Folláin which is such a good beer in its own right but my philosophy is that while you can never be 100% certain what the barrel ageing process will do to a beer, if you put a great [...]

Commercial Leases – I Want to Break Free

Article by: Adam Hogg, Real Estate Partner, Mason Hayes & Curran It is quite common for commercial leases to have clauses entitling the tenant or in some cases, the landlord, to terminate the lease subject to satisfying certain criteria. These are more commonly known as break clauses. From a tenant’s point of view, a break clause is an advantage as it gives it the option of walking away from a potentially long lease and the obligation to pay rent and related outgoings under that lease. This may be crucial in the event of its business not working out as originally planned, or if the tenant has located a premises in a more advantageous location or on better terms. Compliance with the terms of the break clause within the lease is critical. It is important that the terms of the lease [...]

Introducing Our New Brand

Dear Members & Friends, It was a great pleasure to be able to announce our rebranding to Irish Hospitality Global at the Gathering 2018, our recent annual conference and awards ceremony in Galway. After 8 years of the federation being known as Irish Pubs Global we felt the time was right to review the brand against an ever changing and highly competitive world. Our decision to rebrand as Irish Hospitality Global is a strategic response to the decline in the numbers of Irish pubs and bars that we are seeing around the world. Our key belief is what makes the Irish Pub different to it's competitors is not just the unique physical product we produce but the brilliant welcoming experience that customers get when they come through the doors. That WELCOME and clear focus on giving the customer a great personal experience [...]

Managing employee operations effectively in your pub

Managing time and attendance properly couldn’t be more important for today’s pub owner. With a massive percent of pub-staff still signing in on sheets, and receiving their rosters on excel – the ability to see what is happening in your business simply isn’t there, instead it is replaced with an office full of paper. As a pub owner, you have a lot to think about. Aside from keeping your customers happy, you need to keep an eye on your employee operations, such as: Keeping compliant with labour laws & GDPR Managing contracts and employee documents Tracking employee holidays and time off Keeping Labour costs to a minimum Hit Sales & Labour spend targets Managing daily checks Paying staff correctly In some cases, an owner must do this for multiple locations, leaving them blindsided, and unknowingly haemorrhaging money into their labour [...]
