Tour and Lunch at BG Architectural Salvage

All Irish pubs, whether they are in Dublin or Dubai, whether they have stood for 300 years or have been built in the last year, have a blend of old and new architectural charm. The point of shipping a 40 year old live Irish tree to grow in the centre of the pub, or moving twenty tons of stone from Co.Clare to form the floor of the pub is to give not just a physical presence of Ireland in the establishment, but that unique visual and historical link to Ireland too. It adds a certain sense of authenticity to the establishment as well. Much of the essential, charming and downright quirky pieces that make their way into Irish pubs around the world are sourced by BG Architectural Salvage in Dublin. They supply everything from reclaimed doors, flooring, cobbles, back bars, lighting and other décor items. We’ll get a chance to view this Aladdin’s cave of reclaimed and re-purposed architectural treasure in their massive warehouse and yard in Dublin. Lunch and refreshments will be enjoyed here while we literally walk through many pieces of Irish history. More info

Pearse Lyons Distillery Tour

Founded by Dr Pearse Lyons, world-renowned entrepreneur, philanthropist, scientist, brewer and distiller. The Pearse Lyons Distillery is unique in many ways, not only in that they are a new distillery based in a beautiful church in Dublin’s Liberties area, but they are one of the few distilleries in Ireland who have actually produced, matured and bottled their own whiskeys instead of blending other distilleries products. Originally their boutique distillery was quietly based in Co.Carlow and they have now moved it into the site of a beautifully re-furbished church which dates back to the 12th Century. Coincidentally, Dr Lyons found after some research that a number of the estimated 100,000 people buried in the grounds of the church included his own grandfather, grand uncles and a number of other relatives. These whiskeys are not only produced by Pearse Lyons Distillery, but they are also matured in ex-bourbon barrels from his own Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling company in Kentucky USA. The results (as you will taste) are pretty special. More info
