The winner of the best Gin and Tonic in Ireland has been revealed

Ireland’s best gin & tonic has been voted by the public and the results are in. The Irish Gin & Tonic Fest ran across all 32 counties from June 26th to July 1st. A total of 227 venues took part, each creating their own signature gin & tonic with one of the 15 Irish gins that were involved.  The public was invited to vote for their favourite #IrishGnT on Twitter or by posting on the Great Irish Beverages Facebook page. An Púcán in Galway have been voted as the 2017 winners. Their Irish Gin & Tonic was made with Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin from The Shed Distillery in Leitrim, fresh red chilli & mango along with Fever Tree Indian Tonic Water. Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin and Germany’s The Bitter Truth team up for brand collaboration

The Irish bar trade were out in force for the launch of one of the most highly-anticipated brand collaborations in the industry last Wednesday evening 8th March. Alexander Hauck, the German founder of The Bitter Truth touched down in Dublin to team up with Ireland’s PJ Rigney, the founder of The Shed Distillery and the creator of the already iconic Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin. Both brands are represented in Ireland by Dalcassian Wines & Spirits. Leading mixologists and bar owners from Dublin’s top cocktail and bar venues arrived in Zozimus and The Exchequer to attend one of Hauck’s two exclusive Masterclasses. Hauck showcased the intricate science and creativity behind merging flavours, creativity and learnings from the past century to create the ‘Michelin Star’ menu of modern-day cocktails. Dublin bartender to represent Ireland at $10,000 Diplomático Rum World Tournament in Venezuela

A Dublin bartender has beaten off stiff competition from Ireland’s top mixologists to win the opportunity to represent Ireland at the prestigious Diplomático Rum World Tournament in Venezuela. Pat Thomas of Zozimus Dublin was last night chosen as Ireland’s number one bartender at the national finals of the competition in The Sidecar in Dublin’s luxury hotel, The Westbury. He battled it out along with the other ten finalists from leading Irish bars across the country who had all created their own bespoke cocktails to impress the judges. In the end it was Pat’s ‘Duke Mantuano’ cocktail that won the judges’ favour.  The recipe combined Diplomático Mantuano Rum with Amontillado Sherry, Fossinola syrup and lime juice. Davy Macs wins national vote for Ireland’s best Gin and Tonic

Waterford bar Davy Macs’ officially serves the best Irish Gin and Tonic in Ireland. The announcement follows the national gin and tonic festival run by Great Irish Beverages, which featured over 100 venues across the island of Ireland. All participating venues created a signature Irish gin and tonic for the duration of the festival and the public was invited to vote for their favourite via social media. The winning Irish G and T, featuring Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin and elderflower fever tree tonic, won the vote hands down. Oisin Davis of Great Irish Beverages says this is a phenomenal win for Davy Mac’s: “The public are ultimately the real voice when it comes to choosing the best Irish gin and tonic.  If they don’t love it, they won’t order it.  It’s also wonderful to see Irish gins get so much limelight and attention. Get Rid of that Bartender. Today!

I went out on Saturday night for a few beers (Strongbow Cider and Schneider Weiss, if you must know…) and watching the bartender reminded me why there is no place for Ego in business. Certainly not if you’re a bartender. Before you construe this as an attack on the noble profession, nothing could be further from the truth. Having spent many years behind the bar, I consider no profession more respectable and I believe that a great bartender can make your bar. On the other hand, a bad bartender can break your bar.
