Number of craft breweries in Ireland has grown more than 500% in 5 years

A new report from Bord Bia has revealed that Irish Craft Beer is performing well across all fronts, from the number of production facilities to production output, market share and exports. According to the report, both consumption market share, and production market share have each increased by more than 500%. In 2012, the craft beer category recorded consumption market share of just 0.6%, in 2017 that figure reached 3.0% while in terms of production, craft beer rose from 0.4% in 2012 to 2.3% in 2016. The number of craft breweries in Ireland has grown by more than 500% in the last 5 years, with 72 now in operation, up from just 15 in 2012. The Dublin Craft Beer and Cider Cup Competition Is Now Open For Entries

Craft breweries from all over the world are being encouraged to enter their brews into the 5th annual Dublin Craft Beer and Cider Cup competition. The contest allows craft brewers to showcase their brews and have them rated, tasted and analysed by an expert, international panel of judges. The winners will be announced on the first day of the Alltech Craft Brews & Food Fair on Thursday 23rd February 2017. The competition is overseen by Head Judge, Dr. Gearóid Cahill, a Brewmaster with more than 20 years’ experience and a panel of 28 judges including Joan Dineen, former production manager for Heineken Ireland and Gerry McGovern, Irish correspondent for the IBD’s Brewer & Distiller magazine and former brewer at Guinness. Band of Brewers – Killarney Brewing Company

Down the Muckross Road, about a five minute walk from the centre of Killarney is where you’ll find one of Ireland’s finest and newest craft breweries. Doors opened at Killarney Brewing in March 2015 and by the end of 2016, approximately 12,000 visitors will have been through their state of the art craft brewery in the Kingdom of Kerry.  That Killarney gets in excess of 1 million visitors per annum will be of no surprise. Ireland set new Guinness World Record for largest beer tasting

The Alltech Craft Brews and Food Fair took place at the Convention Centre Dublin, from the 5th to the 7th February. Now in its 4th year, the festival attracted more than 10,000 visitors and officially became a world record breaker. The Guinness World Record for the world’s largest beer tasting was smashed on the opening evening, Friday, Feb. 5, 2016. Ireland now holds the record with 729 people simultaneously tasting three beers. Not long to go to Alltech Craft Brews & Food Fair 2016

With a few short weeks to go until the doors open, the final line up for the popular Alltech Craft Brews & Food Fair at the Convention Centre Dublin has been revealed.  The three day event, which is now in its 4th year, will host the best of Irish and International craft breweries and distilleries from Friday 5th – Sunday 7th February 2016.  Last year more than 10,000 people attended the event which hosted craft producers from 24 countries worldwide.

Supplier Spotlight: Independent Brewing

Independent Brewing launched in January 2014 and is located in Carraroe, in the heart of the Conamara Gaeltacht, along the Wild Atlantic Way. The craft brewery has already established itself as an artisan producer of award-winning, high quality beers. Alltech releases first Global Craft Beer Survey

Around the world consumer demands for higher quality and greater variety have positively impacted the craft brewing industry. A recent study on the global craft brewing industry, conducted by yeast expert Alltech, discovered that there are more than 10,000 craft breweries worldwide. Of those, 86 percent are in North America and Europe, with Europe pipping North America to the post by only three craft breweries. Meet the second edition from O’Hara’s Hop Adventure Series

O’Hara’s® Brewery has launched the second edition from the Hop Adventure Series, a single hop IPA featuring the Galaxy Hop. The Hop Adventure Series has been developed to showcase the most interesting hops from around the world, with Australia as the next stop. The hop: Galaxy is one of the most internationally recognised Australian flavour hops; bred in the mid-1990s from Australian high alpha hops and European cultivar male hops. It is bursting with fruitiness, and in particular imparts a unique passion fruit flavour to the IPA, along with citrus and peach. 150 jobs to be created by Rye River Brewing in new craft brewery and visitor centre

150 new jobs are to be based in a new state of the art craft brewery and visitor centre created by beer and cider business The Rye River Brewing Company in Celbridge, Co Kildare, in what will be the biggest independent brewery in Ireland. The new jobs will be created over three years and along with the investment of €4m into the new plant and visitor centre will be worth an extra €12.5m to the local economy. The new positions will be spread across manufacturing, customer service, brewing, export, general operatives and management whilst up to 100 jobs will be generated in the construction of the new brewery plant and visitor centre which is hoped to open in late Spring 2016, subject to planning. Alltech announces major expansion with purchase of two European craft breweries

In a major expansion of its international alcohol division, Alltech, the animal nutrition multinational and producer of award-winning beers and spirits including Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale® and Town Branch® Bourbon, has acquired a craft brewery in Northern Ireland and also one in mainland United Kingdom. ­Dr. Pearse Lyons, the Dundalk-born entrepreneur and founder of Alltech, purchased the breweries from the family of the late Northern Irish businessman Lord Ballyedmond. Alltech’s acquisition of The Station Works Brewery in Newry Co. Down and Cumberland Breweries Ltd. in Great Corby, Cumbria, England represents the first major expansion outside the United States for its brewing division. Already one of the fastest growing craft brewers in the United States, these purchases represent a significant investment by Lyons in the future of the rapidly expanding craft brewing sector in Europe.
