Clonakilty Blackpudding joins Irish Pubs Global as a Corporate Member

Darina Allen and Noel McMeel showcase Irish food in New York

Two of Ireland’s leading chefs joined Tourism Ireland this week in New York to cook a St Patrick’s Day meal and to raise the profile of the Irish culinary scene. Noel McMeel from the Lough Erne Resort and Darina Allen of Ballymaloe Cookery School delivered an Irish culinary masterclass to guests, who included influential food and travel journalists and travel trade – helping to spread the word about the superb culinary experience on offer around Ireland. Bord Bia releases 2017 Irish Foodservice Channel Insights Report

Bord Bia recently released the findings of its 2017 Irish Foodservice Channel Insights Report. The report shows that Ireland’s foodservice market continues to grow and is now valued at a record €7.8 billion, comprising over 33,000 individual outlets. The foodservice market includes all food consumed out of home incorporating restaurants, pubs, hotels, coffee shops, workplace catering, hospitals, education and vending. The report, which also tracks consumer behaviour and sentiment when eating away from home, highlights that take away, or grab-and-go concepts, are one of the key drivers of foodservice growth and that healthier foods are trending and influencing menu ideation. The report shows 35% of consumer spend is found in Limited Service Restaurants, incorporating quick-service restaurants, fast-casual dining and food-to-go, with 12% attributed to Full Service Restaurants. West Cork Named As Ireland’s Premier Foodie Destination

The Restaurants Association of Ireland is delighted to declare West Cork as the winners of Foodie Destinations 2017. The winner was announced at an event held in the Headfort Arms Hotel in the home of last year’s winners Boyne Valley on 29th August. After a rigorous few weeks of applications, regional judging visits and over 10,000 online votes, West Cork was declared the winner after beating out some of the best finalists the competition has seen to date. From events and programmes like the annual Taste of West Cork Food Festival and Cork Character Cafes, to the pride and passion that West Cork food producers and retailers have about their locally made products, they have set the benchmark for food tourism in Ireland. Who will be Ireland’s top Foodie Destination for 2017?

Last week, The Restaurants Association of Ireland announced the Top Ten finalists for the ‘Foodie Destinations’ competition 2017. The competition aims to celebrate Ireland’s unique and wonderful food offerings and to encourage local food tourism initiatives across the country. An independent panel of judges determined the 10 finalists from entry submissions. The top ten this year are Boyne Valley (last year’s winner); Cong; Galway’s Westend; Kilkenny; Kinsale; Loop Head; Monaghan, Sligo, West Cork, and West Waterford. In the next stage of the competition each will receive a visit from two impartial assessors, and voting is also open to the public. Both will carry equal weight in deciding Ireland’s top foodie destination 2017. 32 Irish Pubs Retain Listings In Michelin ‘Eating Out In Pubs’ Guide 2017

Thirty-two Irish pubs spread across fifteen counties, north and south, have retained their listings in the 2017 Michelin ‘Eating Out In Pubs’ Guide just published.   Of the thirty-two establishments listed, twenty-five are in the Republic of Ireland and seven are in Northern Ireland. In overall terms, County Down leads the way with six listings followed by Cork with five, Clare with four and Kildare with three. Ireland’s most famous culinary school celebrates 75 years

On October 11th ‘All in the Food: 75 Years of Cathal Brugha Street’ was officially launched by Senator David Norris. The book celebrates The School of Culinary Arts and Food Technology, DIT - one of the world’s most famous culinary schools. Founded in 1941 it has taught generations of chefs and other food professionals, many of whom have spread their skills around the world or become household names. Dr Frank Cullen, Head of School, thanked all the contributors and highlighted the unique contribution which Cathal Brugha Street continues to make to the world of culinary education.
