Alltech announces major expansion with purchase of two European craft breweries

In a major expansion of its international alcohol division, Alltech, the animal nutrition multinational and producer of award-winning beers and spirits including Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale® and Town Branch® Bourbon, has acquired a craft brewery in Northern Ireland and also one in mainland United Kingdom. ­Dr. Pearse Lyons, the Dundalk-born entrepreneur and founder of Alltech, purchased the breweries from the family of the late Northern Irish businessman Lord Ballyedmond. Alltech’s acquisition of The Station Works Brewery in Newry Co. Down and Cumberland Breweries Ltd. in Great Corby, Cumbria, England represents the first major expansion outside the United States for its brewing division. Already one of the fastest growing craft brewers in the United States, these purchases represent a significant investment by Lyons in the future of the rapidly expanding craft brewing sector in Europe. Teeling Whiskey Triumphs with 9 Gold Medals at International Spirits Competitions

The Teeling Whiskey Company (TWC) continues to build on its international reputation as the leading Independent Irish whiskey company by winning 9 gold medals in International Spirits Competitions in 2015. This brings to 65 the number of awards won by TWC in the past two years. Of the awards received, the International Wine & Spirit’s competition is recognised as the world’s most prestigious. Spotlight on Ireland at Toronto’s Festival of Beer

The Irish pavilion at Toronto’s Festival of Beer was sponsored by Tourism Ireland for the first time this year and featured some of Ireland’s top brewers, finest chefs and emerging musicians. The annual festival, which took place over the weekend, celebrates Canada’s rich brewing history and showcases experts of the brewing craft from around the world. At the Irish pavilion, there was Irish music and entertainment, as well as culinary treats from the Irish chefs and Irish brewers – giving Canadian attendees a real taste of Ireland. There was also a fun photo-booth, where festival-goers could place themselves in iconic spots around the island of Ireland and ‘jump into Ireland’ – to be in with a chance to win a holiday here. Irish Importers to add some of Germany’s best beers, wines and spirits to their portfolio

Alcoholic Drinks Trade Mission from Germany hosted by German-Irish Chamber of Commerce from 9th to 12th June Some of the best and highest quality beers, wines and spirits that Germany has to offer were on show at the German-Irish Chamber’s Tasting Event at the Westbury Hotel in Dublin on Tuesday 9th June. Four German breweries, a distillery, a cider producer, a winemaker and a wine curator, many of whom have national and international accolades, were in Ireland last week on a trade mission to present their drinks which are not yet for sale in Ireland. Teeling Whiskey Distillery officially opens its doors

The Teeling Whiskey Company (TWC) today officially opened its brand new distillery and visitor centre in The Liberties, Dublin. The €10 million distillery is the first in Dublin in over 125 years and the only fully operational distillery in the city at present.   As well as fully functioning distillery, there is a state-of-the-art visitor centre which will host whiskey tasting tours, a café, a bar, a private event space for hire and a gift shop. Winners of the Dubliner Whiskey Cocktail Challenge at the Gathering 2015

‘West Dubliner’, ‘Arre…Bless’ and ‘Morning Joyce’ emerged the three winners of the best original cocktail recipes based on Dubliner liqueur whiskey at the recent Irish Pubs Global Gathering event at the National Convention Centre. The three cocktail creations were deamed up by Michael Woods of St Judes GAA Club in Dublin, James Halligan of the Forty-One cocktail bar and nightclub in Navan and Oisin Kelly of Toners Bar in Lower Baggot Street respectively. A special feature of this year’s IPG Gathering Event the cocktail challenge was sponsored by Dubliner liqueur whiskey. The initiative, between the DIT Bar and Beverage Management Studies, Irish Pubs Global and Dalcassian Spirits and Wines, brought together DIT students in a unique cocktail challenge for all the delegates from over 22 countries.
