Introducing three new Irish whiskeys from Powerscourt Distillery

Fercullen Irish Whiskey The new Powerscourt Distillery in Co Wicklow has proudly unveiled its three new Irish whiskeys under the brand name Fercullen; Fercullen 14-Year Old Single Malt, Fercullen 10-Year-Old Single Grain and Fercullen Premium Blend Irish. Tourism Ireland launches 2018 marketing plans for North America

Tourism Ireland in the United States has launched its marketing plans for 2018. The launch took place at an event in New York, which was attended by leading tour operators, travel agents and journalists from the tri-State area. For 2018, Tourism Ireland is aiming to surpass the record-breaking performance of 2017 and to grow revenue from North American visitors by +7%. Tourism Ireland’s extensive programme of targeted activity in the US for 2018 is already under way. A major television campaign is running on ABC, NBC, and CBS in five priority markets: New York, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia and Washington DC. The current campaign is complemented by extensive digital advertising and social media activity, specially designed to stimulate spring and summer travel to Ireland. Visitor numbers up 11% for Irish whiskey distilleries in 2017

According to new figures published by the Irish Whiskey Association, the number of visitors to Irish whiskey distillery visitor centres reached 814,000 in 2017. This marks an increase of over 11% from 2016, which saw 733,000 visitors. In 2015, 653,000 visitors were recorded. The Irish Whiskey Association published the Irish Whiskey Tourism Strategy in 2015 to support this growth. Two new distillery visitor centres opened during 2017 at Slane Distillery in Co. Meath and Pearse Lyons Distillery in Dublin, with another new distillery visitor centre due to open this month at Rademon Estate Distillery in Co. Down. 2018 is also likely to see further visitor centres opening at new whiskey distilleries in locations ranging from Clonakilty, to Drogheda, to Dublin 8. Guinness Storehouse celebrates 1.7 million visitors in 2017

The Guinness Storehouse remains Ireland’s number one international visitor attraction and has surpassed all previous records, with a total of 1,711,281 guests passing through its doors in 2017. Since first opening to the public in 2000, the Guinness Storehouse has welcomed almost 18 million visitors.  To coincide with it’s visitor number announcement, the Guinness Storehouse also published the results of an independent economic impact report, carried out by CHL Consulting Company. The report identified Guinness Storehouse as a key factor in attracting international visitors to Ireland. 34% stated that a visit to the Guinness Storehouse played a crucial role in their decision to travel to Ireland. This translates to an economic contribution of €361.2 million over a 12 month period. Tourism Ireland has launched first ever tourism campaign in space

Tourism Ireland’s interstellar tourism campaign has taken off, highlighting a destination that is truly “out of this world”. As Star Wars fans around the world eagerly await the new film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Tourism Ireland is celebrating the upcoming release with a fun publicity stunt – the first ever tourism campaign in space. Perched above the earth in space, a billboard ad is highlighting “Earth’s Wild Atlantic Way” with an image of Skellig Michael, otherwise known as Luke Skywalker’s hide-out in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The billboard was launched into space using a weather balloon, to reach a peak altitude of 33,390 metres – where a photo and short film of the ad were then captured. West Cork Named As Ireland’s Premier Foodie Destination

The Restaurants Association of Ireland is delighted to declare West Cork as the winners of Foodie Destinations 2017. The winner was announced at an event held in the Headfort Arms Hotel in the home of last year’s winners Boyne Valley on 29th August. After a rigorous few weeks of applications, regional judging visits and over 10,000 online votes, West Cork was declared the winner after beating out some of the best finalists the competition has seen to date. Ireland ranked No 3 in the world for tourism marketing and branding

The World Economic Forum has announced the results of its global Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index 2017. The biennial report ranks Ireland at number three in the world, out of 136 countries, for ‘effectiveness of marketing and branding to attract tourists’. 

Ireland has moved from number five in the world, when the index was last compiled in 2015, to number three – ahead of countries including Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and France. Jameson Distillery in Dublin has re-opened following €11 million investment

Irish Distillers has announced the reopening of the home of Jameson in Smithfield, Dublin, following a total investment of €11 million. The new look Jameson Distillery Bow St. brand home, which was officially opened by Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform and Dublin Central TD Paschal Donohoe, will support the Irish Whiskey Tourism Strategy target of trebling the number of Irish whiskey tourists visiting Ireland annually, to 1.9 million by 2025.  The newly reopened Jameson Distillery Bow St. offers three fully-guided tours: The Bow St. Experience’ tasting tour focuses on the stories of Jameson’s rich heritage and on-going innovations while ‘The Whiskey Makers’ and ‘The Whiskey Shakers’ experiences provide more in-depth whiskey and cocktail masterclasses, both including the opportunity to sample whiskey straight from a cask in the distillery’s new live maturation house. Tourism Ireland announces Global Greening line-up for St Patrick’s Day 2017
